This project won an international competition for a sustainable and affordable housing prototype to be built in Greensburg, Kansas after a devastating tornado in 2007. The Meadowlark House was designed to be both a comfortable and flexible home for a growing family on a modest budget and a demonstration model for sustainable design and technologies. The house utilizes ‘passive’ methods that promote solar heating and natural ventilation along with innovative mechanical systems such as a ducted energy recovery ventilator. The house will be built to Passive House US standards, the most stringent energy standard in the US.
